The purpose of the newspaper is simple: to excite children about reading and writing. Students need practice in order to improve their reading skills. The mission of Kidsville News is to increase the level of literacy achievement at the 3rd grade level among school children in Newport News and York County.

The vision of Kidsville News is

~ To continue the success of Kidsville News as a free monthly publication to all elementary age children in our service communities.

~ To provide outreach programs through the Virginia Peninsula Children's Literacy Foundation (VPCLF) which can enhance the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom.  VPCLF will seek partnerships to bring reading into after-school activities and the home.

~ To expand the circulation of the publication into the public schools of adjacent cities and counties.
